Clearly, NVIDIA’s new favourite sector is artificial intelligence. This sector has enabled the company to explode as a leader in this new, highly buoyant sector. It has to be said that the brand supplies the biggest companies with hardware, and this is clearly reflected in the company’s accounts and stock market valuation. However, while Blackwell has only just arrived, the brand is working on what comes next. And things are looking up, with the company ahead of schedule. Rubin will therefore arrive before 2026, the date originally planned.
Rubin will be ahead of schedule!
Don’t get us wrong, we’re not talking about the consumer graphics card sector, no, we’re talking about the professional sector, and again, hardware for artificial intelligence.
In short, the cards that will succeed Blackwell already have a name: Rubin and the Chameleon was already talking about them at Computex 2024. However, while the initial plan was for a launch in early 2026, it would appear that this has now been brought forward. Via ITHome, we learn that the architecture will be launched from the second half of 2025.
In order to achieve such a feat (launches usually fall behind schedule), we learn that the company is working closely with its partners. TSMC is even planning to increase production of its CoWoS packages to around 80,000 units in the fourth quarter of 2025, with the aim of satisfying demand for the new chips to come.
Of course, this new architecture will benefit from design improvements over Blackwell. However, this new generation will also benefit from 3nm etching via TSMC, while memory will be entrusted to HBM4. If we go by the shared roadmap, we should have GPUs backed by 384 GB of memory, compared with 576 GB for Rubin Ultra, initially scheduled for Q1 2027. It remains to be seen whether the schedule will have changed by then.
In any case, bringing the launch forward sends out a strong signal to investors on the one hand, but also to the competition. Imagine AMD or Intel planning their rival chips for the same period, and finding themselves completely out of step, or even behind!
