Following the launch of its RX 9000, AMD organised an event in Japan where several of the brand’s partners were present. ASUS, Sapphire, PowerColor, Gigabyte and others were represented around a table. It was during this event, moreover, that we learned that the brand had managed to take significant market share from NVIDIA in Japan.
AMD takes big market share from NVIDIA in Japan!
Naturally, during the event, the brand was asked how long the breakages would last. As you may not have noticed, there was a serious craze for these cards on launch day, and the stock situation has been tight ever since. In response to this question, the brand’s Japanese representatives, Saki Suzuki and Yoshiaki Sato, ironically replied that the brand was not used to selling so many graphics cards… Before adding that in Japan, the company’s market share now stands at something like 45%, oof!
Yes, the brand’s comeback is significant, especially if we consider the 90% market share held by NVIDIA at the end of 2024. What’s more, the reds were rapping on their graph showing the performance/price ratio 23% higher than that of the RTX 5070 Ti, enough to easily seduce anyone looking for a new graphics card.
On the other hand, while this launch is a success for the brand, it should not be forgotten that it is, in part, a victory by forfeit insofar as NVIDIA cards are still not in stock. By mirror effect, this creates a favourable situation for AMD which, as well as offering more affordable cards than the chameleon, for an equivalent range, has allowed itself to line up more stock. Understandably, this situation is good for business for the reds.
Now we’re curious to know whether the situation is the same elsewhere in the world. Remember that the market and consumer expectations differ from those in the West.
