Sonic the Hedgehog will now give you driving directions thanks to Waze collaboration

Is “gotta go fast” a valid speeding ticket excuse?

With such a penchant for speed, Sonic the Hedgehog seems like the ideal chaotic copilot on the road, and that dream has finally been realized in a new collaboration with GPS navigation app Waze. The company announced the news yesterday on Twitter, opening with a phrase that’s the hilarious antithesis of the experience on an app all about traffic: “Are you ready to be unstoppable!?!

Sonic is now a navigation voice option, available in English and French. According to a Google Blog post, Sonic will steer players around with phrases like, “All right! Let’s roll! Keep your eyes on the road. Never know when a loop-de-loop or spike trap will be in the way!” Drivers can also transform their car on the map into Sonic’s car in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, Speedster Lightning, and set their mood to Energetic.

As the 35th anniversary of the franchise approaches, this crossover is part of a larger ongoing Sonic-centric celebration, with the press release teasing that “fans can expect even more exciting announcements over the next year” from Sega. For now, fans can take a ride with the Blue Blur — just don’t let the “gotta go fast” mentality take hold in a school zone.
